Hi👋
I am Max
I am a strategic designer
And I think:

innovation=transitions=vision

There are enough ideas around about how to make things better. In my experience, many people within organisations have the knowledge of what is going wrong and what needs to improve yet it rarely does. I strive to design organisational interventions that mobilize this knowledge to change cultures, organisations and systems.

Me and my colleagues Olivier, Wei, Lily and Mees worked on a project for PostNL to redesign the pickup locker experience. We found that in order to offer the best service, the organisation had to first think about what its vision was. Out ultimate design - far from the original brief - became the final presentation, which we used to engage the client in a reflective conversation about goals, and how one could slowly work towards them.

We created a boundary object that provided a game and roadmap for the employees to have conversations about the future, find people that would want to change something and a suggestion for a bottom-up driven change trajectory. Not everyone got the message, but critical reflections were initatied.

Its about talking

Design is discourse and negotiation. There is no right solution, rather, the outcome is emergent in a collaborative proces, which involves everyone that has a stake, and requires a give and take between each and every ones goals and values.

For my part, I want to work on a society where:

🫂 everyone has the same chances to become their best self💸 wealth is fairly distributed⚖️ democracy is upheld

This means that I do my best to design together with the voices of weaker stakeholders, and test ideas in the real world to ensure that they matter.

Its about showing

Discourse also means communicating ideas and abstract concepts, but also thought processes and discussions understandably to foreign audiences.

I have extensive experience in visual communication, creating system maps, giving presentations, graphic recording, making videos and visualizing design outcomes

Its about doing

Design means reacting to reactions in the real world continuously. Adapting and reiterating on the go. This means a designer needs a diverse toolset they can draw from in any context. My main hard skills lie in:

Prototyping
Quantitative Research
Qualitative Research
